Some fun facts about peridot: 

Peridot symbolizes strength and is said to help depression.

When set in gold, this gem was said to protect the wearer from nightmares. 

Peridot has been found in volcanic lava in Hawaii - in fact, Papakōlea Beach has green sand!  Olivine crystals (another name for peridot) are rather heavy and tend to accumulate on the beach, while other, lighter bits of the volcanic sand are swept out to sea.  Peridot has also been discovered in meteorites.   In the 1700s, a meteorite that landed in Siberia contained many peridot crystals that were large enough to be used for jewelry.

While this bookmark sports some lovely color - it is almost certain none of it came from Papakōlea Beach or a meteorite.
